The French have a brilliant record in international competitions, winning the FIFA World Cup on home soil in 1998 before capturing the European Championships two years later in 2000. They also won France 1984 when Michel Platini bagged nine goals in the tournament - a record that still stands to this day.
This year, Atletico Madrid's forward Antoine Griezmann, 25, is the nation’s most dangerous player after a season that saw him chalk up 33 goals in all competitions. Juventus’ Paul Pogba and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris are just two of the other big names in Didier Deschamps’ star-studded squad and they’ve also benefitted from a favourable draw in Group A with Switzerland, Romania and Albania.
Germany were comfortably the best team at World Cup 2014 and many fans will argue that their squad has improved since then. Although Philipp Lahm has now retired, Joachim Loew still has the best squad to choose from, emphasised by the fact he's been able to leave Borussia Dortmund striker Marco Reus at home.
Thomas Muller is still expected to score the most goals at this summer’s tournament, with odds currently available at 7/1. Bayern’s talisman is one of six Munich players to feature in Germany’s squad, with Neuer, Boateng, Hummels, Kimmich and Gotze also on the plane.
With a relatively easy draw in Group C with Poland, Northern Ireland and Ukraine, are Germany still the team everyone will have to beat?
