Six reasons why we can expect another Madrid derby in the final

Coral new customer offer: Real Madrid to qualify - 6/1

Atletico Madrid reached the Champions League final last night, knocking out Bayern Munich on away goals. Antoine Griezmann’s strike in the 53rd minute was the difference over the two legs, with Thomas Muller and Fernando Torres both missing penalties on the night. All eyes will now be on the other half of Madrid as Real play host to Manchester CIty, with the sides locked on 0-0 after the first 90 minutes of play. Here’s six reasons why we can expect Madrid to qualify at City’s expense:

  1. Cristiano Ronaldo is back. The Champions League’s all-time top goalscorer has been ruled fit to face City tonight after missing the first leg with a hamstring strain. He has 16 goals in this season’s competition already, averaging one every 56 minutes. He also has a prolific record against City - every time he’s scored, the team he’s playing for has gone on to win.
  2. Recent form. Madrid are on fire in La Liga. They’ve now won 12 games in a row following their 1-0 win at Real Sociedad on the weekend and are just one point behind Barcelona in the race for the title. Of course, their rivals Atletico are sat just above them too, on 85 points and only trailing Barca on goal difference.
  3. Home advantage. Although Madrid didn’t grab the all-important away goal, they do have home advantage in the second leg. The 81,000 fans inside the Bernabeu will be fully behind Real tonight, making it one of the most difficult places to come to in Europe. For them, it’s simply a case of winning another game at home.
  4. Devastating in Europe. Real’s home record in Europe speaks for itself. Their last five Champions League outings have returned an aggregate score of 18-0 at the Bernabeu, and they’ve also won 20 of their last 23 matches there in all competitions.
  5. Experience. It does pay in these stages. Real have reached the final 13 times before so have all the experience heading in tonight’s second leg. They also have a nine game unbeaten run against English sides in the Champions League and are firm favourites with bookmakers to reach their 14th final in the competition.
  6. 6/1 is too good to turn down. Real Madrid start the game as 2/5 favourites to qualify for the final, so the enhanced price of 6/1 for new Coral customers is simply too good to turn down.
