Betting preview

The oldest international fixture in the world will be played for the 114th time here, with England leading the way with 48 victories. The Three Lions top Group F comfortably at the moment and are yet to concede a goal in their five games, whilst Scotland are down in 4th despite their 1-0 win over Slovenia in their last qualifier and so they need another positive result here to get themselves back in contention.

However, the Scots have beaten England only once in 10 meetings since 1986, with the victory coming back in 1999. Nonetheless, they’re a tough side to beat on their own patch as they’ve lost only two of their last 14 at home, though one of those was a 3-1 defeat against England themselves in a friendly. Scotland have in fact lost six of their last nine home games against top-25 ranked sides (England are ranked 13th in the world) and so the Three Lions look a fair price at 1.70 (Coral).

England have an excellent record in qualification, winning 14 of 15 unbeaten games since the start of Euro 2016 qualifiers, keeping 13 clean sheets. Indeed, they’ve won 11 of 16 unbeaten away qualifiers since 2010 and so we fancy Gareth Southgate’s men to continue their excellent record against the Scots. Given how strong they’ve been defensively, we’re backing England to win to nil.

If we had to plump for a correct score we’d be backing 2-0 (7.00 with Coral) to the visitors but the stand our bet is any England win without conceding.

Betting tip

  1. England to win to nil at 2.50 (Coral)
  2. England to win 2-0 at 7.00 (Coral)
