The Adventures of Philip Marlowe
If you like your private investigators hard-boiled, and your detective stories served with a bit of LA noir, then look no further than this wonderful archive of Philip Marlowe radio plays from the late Forties. Starring Van Hefflin (and later Gerald Mohr) as the eponymous detective, the dramas are sharp, tightly coiled masterclasses in atmosphere and suspense – and far outdoes the BBC’s more recent attempts to adapt Raymond Chandler’s work for radio.
