Given the paucity of genuinely funny British-made podcasts, it seemed like a heavy loss when this long-running satirical series by Andy Zaltzman and John Oliver slowed to a halt. The reason was obvious: Oliver’s satirical energies were being taken up with his (also brilliant, Emmy-winning) HBO series, Last Week Tonight.
But now it's back, sans Oliver — and with Zaltzman now joined by a different co-host every week. As before, each edition focuses on the big news stories of the moment, pouring scorn on slippery public figures. Oliver’s presence, of course, is missed, but Zaltzman and his guests have done a fine job of keeping the writing sharp and the mirth flowing.
